We’re holed up in a little beachside hotel for the week. Our days consist of swimming, walking on the beach, and hanging out poolside with good books. It’s a nice change from the last 2 months. Here there is much less running around having adventures, and much more sitting, and enjoying, and talking about future plans.
We ended up here because we did zero planning & research for Colombia. And the place we originally went for peace and quiet and a nice beach ended up offering us none of those things. So we spent the better part of a day there on our laptop, doing research and finding someplace else to go. This is a big part of long-term travel…you wouldn’t believe how much time we spend online plotting things out, even when it is done at the last second. Turns out we just needed to go 20 minutes back down the coast to find what we were looking for.
Also, you may not know this, but I have 2 curses when traveling. The first is that I am always the one randomly (or not so randomly) selected to have my bag manually searched. The second is that I always get offered hotel upgrades. So while we paid for the cheapest room in the place, we somehow got upgraded to a junior suite.
Tomorrow, I will be sure to go out and take some pics at the beach, including the wonderful view of all the passing & waiting oil tankers (we’re down the coast from a major oil pipeline here). We’re here until Tuesday and then we’ll head back to Cartagena for a few days and then on to our next adventure.
Oh, and if you look up in the menu, you’ll see a new tab up there: Trip Stats. Wondering how many beds we slept in this summer and other random trivia about our trip? You can find it all there. Don’t see a stat that you would like to? Just ask.
