Rainy afternoons make for amazing sunsets here!
We’ve very much enjoyed our little mini-break here near Santa Marta. We haven’t done much of anything since we’ve been here. Today was a pretty typical day.
We spent the morning reading, editing photos (more slideshow recaps coming soon), goofing off in the pool, & downloading bossa nova covers of pop/rock songs from the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. (Can I just say that the bossa nova version of Sympathy for the Devil is AWESOME?!)
We then spent the afternoon camped out in our hotel room watching the Closing Ceremonies of the Olympics & sampling different regional flavors of papas fritas (chips). Woohoo for hotel rooms with televisions (& Hot Water!!) and ESPN Vivo carrying the ceremonies live.
The pollo ones were not bad, and Cheese Tris are basically the South American version of Cheetohs, except they actually taste like cheddar cheese and not just orange dust. We have decided that, while these were all good, what we’re really addicted to are platanos fritas, most especially the ones served in the restaurant at our hotel here. It just might be that jugos and platanos fritas will keep us coming back to South America again and again.
Evenings are spent dining at the hotel, and then either walking on the beach or hanging out by the pool and enjoying the cooler evenings or hanging out in our room and enjoying actual air conditioning that works. 🙂
We have one more full day here before we head back to Cartagena for a few days. Then on to the islands.
Oh, and Los Pinguinos have been enjoying themselves too:
Mush! Onward, beautiful pachyderm! Take us to the treasure trove of chips! I’m gratified that are chicken flavored chips. Please let me know if you find shrimp chips…and then I will offer you priceless riches in trade for just one case. A really big case. 🙂
