I’ve been remiss in updating the blog of late. We’ve been in the wilds for a large portion of the past 2 weeks, which means poor internet connections (or none whatsoever). New Zealand is not known for its internet, which I would say is more like that of a third world country, except that we’ve travelled in many third world countries with much better (and cheaper) internet.
The second reason we’ve been missing from the blog is that we’ve been out savoring our last 2 weeks on the roads of New Zealand. Tomorrow is our final night in the Spaceship…night #55…and we’ve just wanted to savor the time. And loads of that enjoyment has been happening in the evenings and at night (which is when I normally write), from penguins returning to their nests at dusk to some of the clearest, starriest skies we’ve ever had the privilege to see. So I confess that I’ve been choosing fun over writing for most of the past 2 weeks and am horribly behind. And it’s totally been worth it.
Oh, and we went to see the Hobbit, which was an adventure all in itself. After driving through the New Zealand landscape for more than 50 days, it was a delight to see so many familiar sites in the movie. As both a Tolkein fan and a New Zealand fan I wasn’t disappointed at all. Peter Jackson’s interpretation of the book was fantastic, and I really enjoyed the expanded backstories that he has added. The three hours flew by!
On Tuesday, we’ll pull into Christchurch and move into a rental apartment until just after the New Year. We’re looking forward to spending time in a city still recovering from the earthquakes and gearing up for our next adventures. And we’re looking forward to celebrating the holidays abroad, even though it won’t be the same without our family and friends.
Being in one place for 2 weeks means plenty of time to catch up on the blog. We’ll finish updating you on our final days in the Spaceship and share some of the adventures we’ve had over the past 2 months that you may not have heard about yet.
So hang in there with us for a bit longer. Updates are coming. As well as loads more fun and more adventures.
