We had a post all set to go up today asking for your help in deciding where to spend the month of August. It was down to Colombia or Bolivia and I had even written half the post, recapping highlights of each country.
But then, all day yesterday, Colombia was in the air. Everywhere we turned, people were talking about the country. How friendly the people are, the beautiful scenery, the amazing culture, & the food. How what was once a dangerous and drug-infested country is now transforming into a new vacation and tourism destination, going out of its way to be friendly to travelers. Everywhere we looked, from television to magazines to blogs, Colombia was featured. Its cuisine, architecture, history, culture, and geography invaded our day. It seemed like the universe was telling us to go to Colombia.
And then Romancing the Stone came on. You know, that movie where Kathleen Turner has to travel to Colombia to rescue her kidnapped sister, then falls in love with Michael Douglas while searching for a giant emerald known as El Corazon. Yeah, that one! And really, how can you say no to Joan Wilder and Jack Colton?
Colombia it is!
What does Colombia have to offer?
How about modern hip cities, beautiful Caribbean beaches, old colonial villages, amazing ruins, Andean peaks, coffee plantations, sweeping savannahs, & some of the richest and most diverse jungles in the world, supporting an astounding 14% of the world’s biodiversity?
Makes you want to visit, doesn’t it?
