Today was a kick back and don’t spend a lot of time on the road kind of day. We drove up to the Waipoua Forest to do a bit of tramping in the bush. We hiked out along several different trails to see all sorts of cool trees, including loads more large Kauri trees. We had our picture taken with Yakas, the 7th largest Kauri in New Zealand. And then we had a picnic lunch in the park across the road from the grove where Tane Mahuta is located. We could see his majestic canopy from our picnic spot.
We also did a bit of lounging, a bit of laundry, and created a new playlist for the iPod as the other ones had gotten a bit stale after a week on the road. Of course we also made time to play in the playground at our holiday park. They always have the best playgrounds. This one had a flying fox and 3 trampolines.
Now we’re kicked back eating a bit of dinner and getting ready to go out on a night walk through Trounson Park for the second night in a row. The campground hosts were so excited that we wanted to go out on one of their hikes 2 nights in a row, that they gave us our hike tonight for free! Thanks, Kay & Keith!
Will we see the illustrious and rather shy Kiwi on our hike tonight? We’ll let you know tomorrow. We’re also hoping to spot an owl or two and finally see a Kauri snail.
What are your plans for the weekend?
