Today was a quiet road tripping kind of day. We woke up in Waitomo after our big day of caving and headed south. We decided to take the Forgotten World highway. The Forgotten World Highway was the first heritage trail established in New Zealand, and is one of New Zealand’s most secluded roads. It winds past farms, over 4 mountain saddles, and through the Tangarakau Gorge and Moki tunnel on its way to Stratford.
We took our time, stopping to take photos. It rained intermittently throughout the day, and had rained pretty hard the previous night, so part of the road was covered in washout and road debris. We managed to drive around it and passed the road crew further down the road as they were headed to clear it up.
We pulled into New Plymouth in the early afternoon and were both exhausted. So we holed up in the Spaceship at our campground. We read books and napped. Then made chicken tacos for dinner and finished off the night with a viewing of Mission Impossible 4.
