I’ve been feeling restless for a while. Wondering if we are where we’re supposed to be and doing what we are supposed to be doing. Turns out Kyle has been feeling the same way.
While Kyle and I love our life here in ABQ and this is absolutely where we were supposed to be for a very long time, as a couple we’ve started to feel like maybe we’re supposed to be someplace else doing something else. And we think that something else is long term travel. We feel like the universe is leading us to someplace new and the way it is doing it is through following our bliss and taking this extended trip.
We’re open to this experience and to seeing where it takes us and what we can learn along the way, about ourselves, about the world, about people and life, and just maybe about why we’re here and why we’re together on this journey.
Dr. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, a psychologist who has made it his life’s work to explore what it is that makes people truly happy, talks of something he calls flow.
“Flow, whether in creative arts, athletic competition, engaging work, or spiritual practice, is a deep and uniquely human motivation to excel, exceed, and triumph over limitation…happiness is not simply flow nor an emotional state nor even the experience of pleasure. The happiness he points to involves the continual challenge to go beyond oneself as part of something greater than one’s own self-interest.” (citation: http://www.enlightennext.org/magazine/j21/csiksz.asp )
And that pretty much sums up what we’re setting out to do. We are looking forward to going beyond ourselves and our life here and challenging ourselves to experience new places, people, & customs. To truly become part of something greater than ourselves. We are looking forward to pursuing our joy and hoping it brings us even more happiness. Won’t you come along?
