We got up today to super high winds so hiking in the area was out. So we had one goal in mind. Get to a town large enough to have a theater showing “The Hobbit”. We headed out bright and early for Timaru, stopping for a few parting shots of Aoraki along the way.
We got to Timaru with 15 minutes to spare before the next showing of the movie. We stocked up on ice cream cones, popcorn, and soda and made our way into the theater. We really enjoyed the movie, especially the extra bits that Jackson has chosen to expand upon in this film.
After the movie, we made our way over to our holiday park and spent the rest of the afternoon hanging out and catching up with friends and family. Tomorrow we will head along the Tranzalpine route to Arthur’s Pass.
Beautiful landscape!
