A few people we know are currently traveling in Colombia, which means we’ve been reminiscing about our time there while giving them advice on where to go and what to do. In honor of that, here are 5 moments from our time in Colombia.
The Colombian flag waves high over Castillo San Felipe de Barajas in Cartagena. Located high on the Hill of San Lazaro, this fortress provided a strategic place from which to defend Cartagena from attack by sea.
One of the spires of Catedral de Bogota greets you as you walk down Calle 11 towards the Plaza de Bolivar. Plaza de Bolivar is the center of Colombian government, and a popular gathering spot for locals and tourists.

People cycle past the presidential palace in Bogota on a Sunday afternoon. Sunday is the only day this stretch of road is open to the public in a public event called Ciclovía.
The main chapel at Catedral de Sal in Zipaguira. Starting out as a small chapel dedicated to the miners of this salt mine, the church grew to become a huge cathedral underneath the mountain, with many chapels, naves, and stations of the cross carved out of the salt and beautifully lit in the darkness.
Colombia remains one of our favorite countries and we look forward to returning to spend more time there.
