    We’re back from hiatus! After spending the summer half in ABQ and half in Mexico, we’re finally together again back in our home here in Oaxaca, soaking up the sun and the parades, and eating all the tacos. As of tomorrow, we’ll have been back home for two weeks. But this past week has been super special, as a great college friend and his girlfriend are here visiting us. So we’ve been enjoying catching up with him, getting to know her better, and having loads of fun in the process as we share a bit of our life here in Mexico. (There might have been quite a bit of mezcal drinking as well.) Here are a few fave things from this week.

    {Look who showed up on our doorstep. One of my good friends from college and his lovely girlfriend came to visit, and we've been enjoying hanging out with them this week and showing them around our favorite town. We started off their visit by taking them to the weekly market in Tlacolula - the longest running weekly market in mesoamerica. Here they are in front of the church there.}

    {We took our friends out to visit some artisans in the Ocotlan Valley-about 30 minutes from Oaxaca City. This is José García Antonio, a blind sculptor from the town of San Antonino. They call him the man who sees with his hands. He has been sculpting with clay since he was a boy and only went blind about 15 years ago. This is Don José working on one of his smaller pieces. Such a talented and joyful gentleman. He's a joy to sit and chat with.}

    Found this beautiful cactus at our neighborhood's weekly mercado. We named him Carlos el Tuna.

    {It was a lovely morning to visit Monte Alban, one of the oldest cities in Mesoamerica. Located high on a mountaintop above the Oaxaca valley, Monte Alban was the social and political center for the Zapotec people of this area for more than 1,000 years (from 500BC to 750AD), before being abandoned.}

    Have a fantastic week! We’ll be settling back into our regular expat life, including lots more posting on Instagram, Facebook, and right here on the blog. The beginning of October marks the beginning of the ramp up to the Dia De Muertos celebrations here in Mexico. So there will be so many festive, interesting, and beautiful things to share, along with loads of pics of yummy street food. Bienvenidos & Welcome Back, y’all!
