October always kicks off my favorite time of the year. The final three months of the year are always a huge run of holidays and celebrations. Birthdays, Dia de Muertos, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and all the other fun celebrations that Oaxaca packs into this final quarter of the year. We had a great time here last year, when we knew pretty much nothing about what to do or where to go. We’re looking forward to celebrating even more fully this year, and soaking in every celebratory moment of the next three months.

Our one year anniversary of moving to Oaxaca is coming up fast! And with the beginning of October, the city starts to come back to life again. The return of old friends, meetings with new ones, rekindling of friendships both old and somewhat new. It’s hard to believe that we’ve almost lived here for a year, but also hard to believe it’s only been a year. This place is home for us, and we’re relishing the quiet acceleration that marks the start of October. It’s the final bit of quiet before the delicious chaos of celebration comes to town.
