This has been an incredible week! I finally found my unicorn – the guy who sells tacos out of the trunk of his car. I’ve been trying to find him for months and finally got to sample his tacos this week. (I recommend the tacos de costillo.) My other favorite tacos guy was back from his Semana Santa break, which meant more tacos for me. I also went with another good friend to check out the market in Zaachila, about 25 minutes outside Oaxaca by collective taxi. I came home with loads of mezcal and produce (15 mangoes for only 20 pesos – or about ten cents each). The only thing that would have made the week better was if Kyle was here too. But he’ll finally come home next week. The trunk tacos guy can’t wait to meet him. (And our laundry guy will be happy to see him too. Every time I see him, he asks me when Kyle is coming home.)
This week was also the hottest week in Oaxaca this year. With temps reaching 96 F degrees, I’ve found myself wearing tank tops and flip flops while all my friends and family in the states are in that weird transition time where it’s either super warm or snowing – often all in the same day. I’m happy to be here, far away from the cold and the snow.
A few images from this week.

{For months, I have been searching for the guy who sells tacos out of his trunk several mornings a week. Finally found him on Tuesday! Best.Breakfast.Ever!}

{Did a chocolate tour this week, and got to sample some freshly roasted cacao beans}

{I’d like to introduce you to Israel, the incredibly kind, smart, and funny gentleman who sells tacos de cabeza de res (yes, that is head tacos for those of you playing at home – and they are delicious). When a friend and I stopped by for tacos earlier this week, he was wearing this Chia pet shirt and we couldn’t help but sing the song from the commercial for him. He insisted on posing for this photo while also holding a water bottle of chia. He’s often reading books on philosophy and life when we see him. This day was no exception. We talked about whether love or family is more important.}

{The view of one of my many café offices. This is the courtyard of Casa de la Sierra Azul, a beautiful boutique hotel not far from our apartment. Not a bad spot to do some writing.}
