Sunday we took a trip out to Monuriki Island. Monuriki is an uninhabited island about 25 minutes by boat from Mana. It is the island where Tom Hanks filmed the movie Castaway.
Once we arrived at the island, we hiked up to the top, about a 20 minute hike. The view from the top was breathtaking…everything you expect from a South Pacific view…lush green islands and water in shades of blue that are so clear they look fake.

After hiking back down we went snorkeling right off the beach.
We saw quite a few fish, including parrotfish & trumpetfish.
When you’re on Castaway Island, you can’t help thinking about what you would do if you were stranded on a desert island. When you look westward from the top of the island, the brilliant blue waters of Fiji quickly give way to darker and deeper waters. No islands or land can be seen in that direction. Next stop: the Solomon Islands
But the funny part about Castaway Island is that if you look in any other direction you see loads of islands, some close enough to swim to. Castaway Island is not so castaway after all.
And a special shout out to our new Aussie friends. Thanks for the fun & the laughs. See you soon!
Wow, now that’s paradise!
OMG, pineapple Tang. I definitely have to try that. I had A candy corn in your honor yesterday. OK, a small handful. Darn that electronic HAPE phenomena taking out your brand new watch. How about a wrist friendly teeny-tiny sundial?
