One of our good friends was in town for the past two weeks, on her first visit to both SE Asia and Cambodia. And one of the things she really wanted to do while she was here was go to cooking school. So off we went to Cambodian Cooking School at Le Tigre de Papier to learn how to make some of our favorite Khmer dishes.
We started off our class with a quick walk through the local market and then it was back to the kitchen to get to work. Our instructor, Savoeun, was a lot of fun. She started off the class with a demonstration on how to make one of my favorite desserts, pumpkin custard.
Then it was time to put us to work. Each of us had already selected a starter and a main to learn how to make. Laura and I made Amok and Kyle made Lok Lak for our mains. Our starters were some of our faves as well, mango and papaya salads.
After class, we all sat in the restaurant and enjoyed our creations. We left stuffed and happy, and took one last photo with Saveoun and our certificates.
Le Tigre de Papier is kind enough to share their recipes. They have a great website with recipes and even video demonstrations. You can find recipes for many of your favorite Khmer & Asian dishes on their site: http://angkor-cooking-class-cambodia.com/html/video.php
Happy Cooking! ~Kat
