Come with us as we explore this world and where we fit in it. ~Kat & Kyle
We’re Kat & Kyle, partners in crime since 2001. Travel has been a big part of our life since we first started dating. Whether it was a road trip through the American Southwest or our wedding in the Highlands of Scotland, we’ve always used travel as a means of discovery, entertainment, celebration, and education.
We had a great, somewhat conventional, life back in the states. But we always felt like something was missing. One day, as we were boarding a plane back to the states after a week in Jamaica, & feeling incredibly sad about the prospect of returning to our regular life back home, we realized that the times when we really felt the most fulfilled were those times when we were traveling. We LIVED for those new experiences, people, and places. It brought us together in ways that nothing else ever has and challenged us in so many ways that we really needed. We craved more of that time and realized that the whole point of our life in the states was to facilitate more travel and more time for us.
We had always talked about taking off a few years in our late 40’s or early 50’s to travel the world, and we’d been planning for that. But we decided we didn’t want to wait any longer, so we set out to make those fulfilling times on the road our full time life. We quietly planned and plotted. We came up with a vision of a life of full time travel, and then we worked hard to make our dream a reality.
In 2012, we quit our jobs, sold everything, and hopped a flight to South America. We were ten years ahead of schedule. We’ve been traveling around the world ever since.
These days, we’re living more of a hybrid expat/backpacker life as we try to decide where home really is. We’re currently settled down in Oaxaca, Mexico – with a year long lease – enjoying the expat life for a bit. This blog is about our journey, both physically & emotionally, as we explore this world and try to figure out where we fit in it.
Come along with us on this adventure!
