    A week in Cusco

It’s been a pretty busy week here in Cusco. We’ve gone on a few tours, eaten loads of great food, met a lot of fun people, turned down about a thousand offers for Incan massages, and seen a lot of really cool stuff.

Today, we’re busy sorting & packing our gear into two sets….the packs that we will carry on the Inca Trail and the duffle bags that will stay behind in Cusco. Our guide will be here bright and early tomorrow morning at 5:30 am to pick us up, and then we’re off to hike the Inca Trail.

We should hit km82 – the start of the Inca Trail – at about 8:30 tomorrow morning. Over the next 4 days we’ll trek 43km, through cloud forests and over mountain passes, and visit many Incan ruins along the way. Early on the morning of July 3rd, we’ll reach the Sun Gate and get our first glimpse of Machu Picchu.

To say that this is a dream come true for the both of us is an understatement. Machu Picchu is one of the pillars of our big trip…one of our “must sees” that we built our trip around. Being in this place, knowing we’re so close, is a bit overwhelming. And we’re chomping at the bit to leave. All week long we’ve been biding our time, waiting for tomorrow.

We’ll be out of touch for the next 5 days. We hope you all have a fantastic Independence Day!

We’ll be back next week with tales of Machu Picchu! In the meantime, enjoy some photos from our past week here in Cusco.
