{Always new street art to be found around the centro}
After the monthlong party that is Guelaguetza here in Oaxaca, the city is finally calming down to it’s regular pace, which means we’ve got a bit more time on our hands to wander and enjoy the city without being blocked by parades and attending celebrations all over town. It’s always fun to be part of the big celebrations, but it’s also nice to have the city & our life go back to normal.
And August in general is shaping up to be much more peaceful as well. We’ve been enjoying catching up with old friends, making new ones, and just enjoying our life here. We’ve finally slipped back into some of our favorite old routines, from Saturday shopping in the big mercado, to popping into our friend’s brewery to see what new beer is on tap, and stopping off to chat with our favorite street vendors about the happenings while we were away.
Here are a few favorite memories from the past few weeks (since we forgot to post last week).

{Loved these mini-gigantes in one of the parades – totally inspired by Dragon Ball Z!}

{Agave piñas – the heart of the agave, which will then be roasted in the next step towards producing mezcal. This pile was almost as tall as me.}

{Tacos de barbacoa de ribeye. We were invited to a preview of a new restaurant with a fantastic terrace and view – and then treated to these.}

{Little wool treasures from one of our favorite weaving families out in the valley.}

{The fiestas are over – for now. One of the many papel picado ceiling decorations during the Guelaguetza celebrations – now taken down and lying on the side of the street. I guess the party is over – until next week.}

{Sign at the Mezcal fair – “Mezcal is like sex. Everyone can get it but it’s not as good as ours.”}

{Fermented and cured goodies from Suculenta. Salsa Morita, a rojo escabeche, and some lemon rosemary olives.}
